Day 15 and tomorrow is the start of 2023! Didn't sleep last night so tossed my Everett on over my joggers and silly socks.
Today we are featuring my Disney character holiday leggings, wool socks, and an under layer of a Duluth Trading mock turtleneck shirt. Two more days and the holiday leggings are done. I love these for a change because of the mostly white feeling - so different from all my dark leggings.
Today I'm layering a 100% cotton t-shirt (XL) that was a gag gift from one of my readers. I'm wearing it in honor of my book release today! WOOT!! Ventis & Victims is book one in my Red Line Coffee Shop mystery series.
Another bitter cold day so I pulled on my Cuddl Duds fleece leggings, SmartWool socks, and a turtleneck from Land's End (I have three of them, bought them years ago).
I had to do the lotion trick for the first time to keep the Everett from clinging to my leggings. I don't use any fabric softener, just wool dryer balls and this time of year, static is horrible.
It's been a week and I love the Everett more and more. Today is cold so it's not alone, I'm wearing a base layer from 32 degrees, inexpensive fleece leggings and wool socks (the holiday socks just aren't as warm). Then I added a quilted vest from 32 degrees. It's -2 degrees at 10:30 and still only 63 in the house (our heat pump just can't keep up). Running the space heater in my office.
It does feel strange to think I've only finished one week of the challenge and there are 13 more (plus a couple of days) left to go. Again, since I'm team basic, it'll be mostly leggings with an occasional vest on uber-cold days along with various under layers. On the cruise, I will wear it for a photo, then sleep in it (well, unless we have a cold snap and that does happen).
All-in-all, I'm quite pleased with it and wouldn't hesitate to get another, even realizing it's not quite as warm as I expected by itself. I love layering! (The older I get, the more I feel the cold...)
Yesterday was wash day, not because it needed it, but so I could compare and share the fit. I washed it with half a dozen other wool items (none were 100% wool) in our top load, no agitator washer set on cold water hand wash using Woolite, the laid flat (in half) to air dry.
It did size back up a bit, about halfway between day one (fresh out of the package) and day five (sitting & normal activities). I could feel the sleeve cuffs were tighter and I had less extra material around the lower half, but felt less difference in the top half.
I had hoped it would not feel quite as scratchy, but that didn't happen. Good thing I will be wearing with a base layer of at least short sleeves most of the time. It also has a bit of an odor - I'm hoping a couple more washings in a Nikwax Wool solution will help that. Woolite was all I had on hand and I wanted to get the first washing done.
Here is my day five photo - I took some extras to show again how relaxed it has become. It will be washed today and I'm interested to see how it fits tomorrow.
Here's another view..
Today I'm layering my 32Degrees mock turtle base layer underneath. Boots are already on. I added both of these late yesterday as I got colder. My Christmas leggings and socks don't quite match, but since I'm not leaving the house, who cares? LOL! Oh, and I remembered the mirror on the back of our guest room door so hubby doesn't have to take the pics!
I bought this tunic in hopes it would work for our late October visit in Scotland. Still think it will but will definitely be layering merino underneath as well as merino socks. For now I'm continuing to use what I have already.
Fresh from the shower (me, not the Everett). Christmas leggings again..there will be more. Still enjoying it but definitely loosened up. Here are a couple more photos showing the excess. Still thinking my reward dress will be another Everett but in a large black, rather than x-large.
Rather than bother hubby, I opted to use my closet mirror. Not the best but it works. I will be team basic and I have a ton of holiday leggings so those will be my fall back from now till I leave for my cruise.
Still nothing under the Everett, that may change in the next week as the temps here get colder. The fit definitely relaxed yesterday, I may use my reward for an Everett in a Large, black since that goes with everything. But only if I can drop these last ten pounds and slim my middle.
