Growing up, I always envied my mother's skill at crossword puzzles. We got a daily newspaper from Boston (probably the Globe) and she did it every day. She also had the small paperbacks of crosswords and I soon started working them as well. I was a voracious reader by age ten and did pretty well at adult crosswords by age twelve. I haven't done many in the past years and I miss it.

Being a reader...and a writer
I've alway been a voracious reader, devouring book upon book, even at a young age. I grew up on Wind in the Willows, Charlotte's Web, Mary Poppins, Cheaper by the Dozen, National Velvet, Black Beauty, Misty of Chincoteague (do we see a trend here?) as well as all the Bobbsey Twins and Trixie Beldon books. In high school it was 1984, Animal Farm, Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead.
